(Orlando, Fla., Jan. 29, 2020) – RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) hosted its Industry Issues Breakfast during the 2020 Golf Industry Show in Orlando today. More than 175 members and guests attended the event, including members of the Government Affairs Committee from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

“Vocal advocacy from the golf industry’s immediate and extended network is essential to keeping specialty pesticide and fertilizer products on the market,” said Governing Board Chairman Gilles Galliou of Bayer Environmental Science. “We stand proudly beside our golf customers and are committed to supporting effective policies at the local, state and federal levels. Partnering is key to our success. We’ll continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that superintendents have access to vital products.”
Megan Provost, President of RISE, highlighted some of the association’s victories – ranging from reauthorizing the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA IV) to engaging federal and state regulators around pesticide labels – and spoke to some of the association’s priorities going forward. “We are endeavoring to make improvements in our operational excellence, as well as our communication and collaboration with members, stakeholders, and partners as we address challenges, such as product bans and restrictions, that undermine the integrity of our pesticide registration process. As we begin our 30th year as the specialty pesticide industry’s trade association, we will strive to strengthen our connections and to look for opportunities to support a positive business environment for the specialty pesticide industry.”

Additional speakers at the breakfast included Peter McDonough, golf course superintendent at Keswick Hall & Golf Club in Virginia, as well as Jon Lobenstine, director of agronomy at Montgomery County Golf in Maryland. Chris Skibba, Kadant Grantek, Inc., vice chair of RISE Programs & Membership Committee, also spoke to attendees about the association’s commitment to the golf industry.
RISE begins its 30th year on February 1, 2020. The association’s first president, Allen James, started on February 1, 1991, and attended the GCSAA conference and trade show just two weeks later.
